“Who are you working for?”: The role of 24 villains for reinforcing the master narrative of U.S.A history

The purpose of this article is to analyse some events taking place in the television show 24 as identify if and how they respond master narrative U.S.A. history, values, nationalism. More specifically, study focuses on depiction Arab, Russian, Chinese villains are constructed and, such, what these representations might mean. As suggested during research, seasons its array impersonating foreign threat, parallel with leadership stopping evil spread throughout world, successful compressing a political agenda providing “young country” fixed identity. With theoretical framework brought by Said (1979), among others, identifies Jack Bauer, series hero, not only defined his actions, but differ from actions antagonists. Interestingly enough, while called fundamentalists due their religion or blind nationalism, findings demonstrate greatest fundamentalist Bauer himself.
